There are further options: either paddling where guests are expected to take part by using paddles to steer the boat or let the river guide do all the work with his two oars. Luxury safari-style trips with full team are available too.A typical day in the river begins early in the morning when participants arrive at the put-in point, which is where the trip actually starts. Instructions on safety and emergency situation are given to participants before hitting the river. Life jackets and helmets are distributed to all the rafters. These are very important for safety. All meals are provided during the trip, stopping at white sandy beaches. When a rapid is coming up, the guide gives instructions on what to do. Team work is important when paddling as the maneuvers have to be coordinated in order to deal with the rapid. Camps are set up for the night on one of the lovely beaches and clients have the option of helping with the camp chores or just relaxing to let the crew handle the job.
The best time for rafting is from October through mid-December and March through early May. In winter the water is cold which shortens trips considerably. On the other hand, during the monsoons months, June through September, the white water sections are dangerous, but gentler stretches are easy to raft on. The Nepal government has opened some sections of 10 rivers for commercial rafting.

Short Rafting:
Short trips take between one to four days and do not involve trekking. Some of these trips involve less challenging white water and are ideal for first time rafters and families. Others attract experienced thrill-seekers with their world-class rapids.

Trishuli River:

Days: 1 to 3 days        Grade: 3+
River Trishuli is one of the most popular rivers for rafting in Nepal. For first-time rafters it offers plenty of excitement. Due to its proximity to Kathmandu and the easy road access, most rafting companies offer trips on the Trishuli. It is also the cheapest river trip available in Nepal. As on the Seti, this trip can be combined with safari in Chitwan National Park.

Seti River:

Days: 2 days   Grade: 3 to 5
River Seti is one of the rivers that are easily accessible and the put-in point is at Damouli, about 160 kilometers west of Kathmandu. Several rapids are encountered before reaching the confluence with the Trishuli River. The pilgrimage site of Dev Ghat marks the confluence of Kali Gandaki and Trishuli. Rafters have a choice of either coming back to Kathmandu or continuing the journey to visit the Chitwan National Park.

Bhote-Koshi River:

Days: 2 days   Grade: 4 to 5
River Bhote Koshi is a two-day run of pure adventure. The put-in point is only three hours away from Kathmandu. Twenty-six kilometers of continuous white water bring plenty of thrills for rafters as they shoot through a veritable maze of canyons and boulders. It is the steepest river rafted in Nepal and requires much concentration. Starting above Barabise, the trip ends at Lamosangu, the long bridge.

Kali-Gandaki River

Days: 3 days   Grade: 5 to 5+
River Kali Gandaki winds through remote canyons and deep gorges of intense rapids. Starting at Baglung, you could raft down to Ramdighat. Trips on the Kali Gandaki begin and end in Pokhara and offer an exciting alternative to the Trishuli. There are continuous challenges along the 120 km long run.
Extended Rafting Trips:
Longer trips take you into some of Nepal’s most remote areas. They often mean trekking for short stretches to reach the put-in point. On these treks, local porters are hired to carry the gear and supplies. Clients need only carry personal belongings. Many of these long trips end up near one of the National Parks or Wildlife Reserves. Trips can be combined with safari adventure to go in search of the elusive tiger, rhinos or the many animals roaming free in the jungles of the tarai.
